Read just some of the awesome testimonials which we have received from our Blue Brothers.
I have been going to Blue Brothers sessions since I was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year. It's healing being with like minded people and surrounded by love. And if you aren't in Christchurch a Zoom meeting can be arranged. But go if you are in Christchurch it's magic.
There's nothing like a regular group to keep me exercising. The gym facilities are excellent with good parking, a must for older people like me. Michelle our tutor is competent with a bright bubbly personality. She encourages us to try a range of interesting exercises and has helpful tips when we have difficulties. Coffee mornings give us a chance to tell our stories and get to know each other better. I recommend this group to others with Cancer. I have benefited from the exercises and the company.
I have been attending the Blue Brothers cancer exercise class for about 3 years now. Attending the classes have been very helpful for me to meet and discuss things with other members who have their own information and stories to share. The fitness instructor Michelle does an amazing job not only with the exercises and adapting them to each individual’s abilities, but also with her endless amounts of energy to get you motivated.
I would like to give a big thanks to Dave and Michelle.

In November 2019 I received the horrible news that I had the incurable blood cancer Myaloma, after the initial shock of it all not just to me but to my family, my work mates and a few chosen friends it was up to my haematologist to explain my cancer and my future treatments, I have now finished all my 1st, 2nd and 3rd stage treatments and cancer wise I am doing very well, what my future has instore for me cancer wise is any ones guess, my treatment team has indicated to me the longer I can stay fit and healthy both mentally and physically the longer the cancer should remain suppressed and under control.
I have always been a fit and healthy person, so on understanding I needed to continue being fit and healthy, I, with the help of the North Canterbury Cancer Society started investigating my options. It was at this stage I was introduced to Dave Cattermole and the Blue Brothers exercise class for men with cancer, it proved to be the best cancer rehabilitation class and mates with cancer group I have ever been involved with. Guys don't let the thought of exercise put you off this is a very small but voluntary part of the program, everyone in our Rangiora Group love our exercise class, we love our personal trainer Misha, and she loves and understands us, she tells us we are by far her favourite exercise group and encourages us to perform to our best but well within our own limitations and never asks us to over extend ourselves.
But the best part of our exercise class is the coffee session in the gym cafe after class, all us guys now the best of mates, talk about everything and anything of interest, sometimes but not always our cancers and where we are all at with our treatments, we get to reassure each other we are now not alone, we are mates that genuinely understand each other because of our common cancer bond. (We all have different cancers) I know this might sound crazy to most people but getting cancer and meeting these wonderful guys and Misha our trainer is the high lite of my cancer journey to date, without them and the Blue Brothers concept I know my journey with cancer would not have run as smooth as it has. Thank you Dave and Blue Brothers, the guys and I at Rangiora can't thank you enough for the concept you have created, to help us and I hope many others in the future to take ownership of there cancer journey and to fight and challenge there different cancers. Remember guys, you are and never will be alone in your battle, we and Blue Brothers will be along side you all the way WE ARE BROTHERS IN ARMS in this journey and our fights with cancer.
In closing, please give the guys at Blue Brothers a chance I can promise you, you will not regret it and you will meet and become mates with the most amazing guys, even if you can't or don't want to exercise feel free to come to the gym for a coffee with us any time, you will always be welcome, don't fight your battle alone, we understand and we can help, we were once you. PLEASE COME AND SAY HALLO.
